Schools have historically been very effective conduits
for infectious diseases. Public health officials
and school administrators know this and have called for
temporary “recesses” from
school to slow down outbreaks. Schools are an important consideration
in planning efforts for many types of events.
The S.A.F.E.
Center is a web site maintained by ISTE® (the
International Society for Technology in Education), and is a
very good resource for school administrators.
In
particular, the “Emergencies” and “Plans” portions
of the site give in-depth information on each hazard and
planning templates to help schools develop their response
protocols. This would be a good site for parents to
forward to their school officials, as this is a new site
and is relatively unknown. There is a link to the SAFE
Center on the Institute’s main page under “Academic
Continuity”.
