Smallpox Exercise Program Development Continues
Exercises will be field-tested in the St. Louis metropolitan area

All five elements of the smallpox exercise project have been written and are in the final editorial stage. Gene Carroll, our Institute Multimedia director, is negotiating use of the local PBS television studio to videotape the media segments with a former local news anchor. These segments will bring news of an increasingly dire smallpox outbreak to the fictional community.
As part of the overall quality assurance phase of the project, the exercises will be field-tested with local hospitals and the St. Louis County and St. Louis City Health Departments. Dr. Alan Zelicoff and the Aires Corporation have generously agreed to support that effort by making SYRIS (the Syndrome Reporting Information System ) available to the exercise participants.
