Welcome to the
Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness
Programs

Offered through the Institute for Biosecurity, these programs are designed to meet the growing need of public health professionals, physicians, physician assistants, nurses, veterinarians, emergency management professionals, corporate security and health personnel, law enforcement, and related professionals.

These programs focus on skills required to be a biosecurity professional, which encompasses the fields of homeland security and consequences management of pandemics. The biosecurity area is one of the most rapidly growing disciplines in public health and homeland security.

Biosecurity & Disaster Preparedness Program Options

Master of Science (MS)
in Biosecurity & Disaster Preparedness

Master of Public Health (MPH)
with a concentration in
Biosecurity & Disaster Preparedness

The 42-hour Master in Science program is taught entirely using distance technology through the School of Public Health at Saint Louis University, a fully accredited school of public health. The degree can be completed in two and a half years if two courses are completed each semester.The MS degree is targeted to non-traditional working students who wish to take advantage of the distance-learning format. Successful students in this program are self-directed, motivated adult learners who are critical thinkers and who can work independently in a non-traditional environment. Distance technology permits a student to decide when they will study and how long it will take them to get their degree.

This 48 credit hour Master in Public Health program is a hybrid program, with classes provided both on campus and through distance technology. Two semesters (15 credit hours) of residency for full-time students are required, as well as a Practice Experience (which is similar to an internship). The program is provided through the School of Public Health at Saint Louis University, a fully accredited school of public health. The degree can be completed in two years if two courses are completed each semester.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
in Public Health Studies with a concentration in
Biosecurity & Disaster Preparedness

Certificate
in Biosecurity & Disaster Preparedness

The School of Public Health offers the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health Studies degree with concentrations in Behavioral Science and Health Education, Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology, Health Management and Policy, and Health Services Research. The doctoral program allows students to study and work side-by-side with nationally known educators and researchers who serve as mentors. Recent graduates have taken positions as faculty members, with federal agencies, and within the private health care sector.

The 15 credit-hour certificate program is offered through the School of Public Health at Saint Louis University, a fully accredited school of public health. Courses that are completed in this program may be later applied towards the MS Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness degree.
