Eileen Malatino received a BS in Nursing from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and a MS in Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness from Saint Louis University. She recently retired as a CAPT from the Navy Nurse Corp (Reserves) after 26 years of service. Recalled to active duty in 1990 during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, she was stationed at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD and worked as a team nurse for nine months.
Professor Malatino is currently employed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA as a Health Scientist in the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, Division of Strategic National Stockpile (SNS). She has been with the SNS since 2002 and functions as part of the science team. Prior to this, she worked for Emory University, the VA Hospital, and private industry doing clinical research in HIV/AIDS. Past experience also includes 13 years in the Fairfax County Health Department (Virginia) as the nurse epidemiologist, eight years in occupational health, and five years in intensive care/coronary care.
Malatino was part of the inaugural class for the SLU Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness program, and found the curriculum a perfect fit for her current position at CDC. She feels that the biosecurity and disaster preparedness field is one that is really in demand, and the need for educated, knowledgeable persons is critically important. |
