There
are various types of job opportunities for
biosecurity
professionals.
Some
examples include
- homeland
defense
- hospital
disaster planning
- public
health disaster planning
- emergency
management positions within the local, state, or federal government
- various
types of public health professional positions (epidemiologist,
outbreak specialist, etc),
consulting
- infection
control/infectious disease positions
The
contacts you make in the program will go a long way to help start
your career. We have biosecurity professionals taking our courses
who work for the CDC, local, state, and federal government, the
U.S. military, human and animal laboratories, private businesses,
and many
other work settings. In addition, some of the class assignments
will
"force" you to interact with disaster planners in your
community so
you will get to know people working in the field and have the
opportunity for networking.
Attending
disaster or bioterrorism-related conferences is also a wonderful
way to meet people who are also in the homeland defense arena,
and get a feel for the types of jobs available.
Try the FEMA Employment Opportunites in Emergency Management website. It may give you a feel for what is out there in terms
of
job opportunities for those having the proper academic credentials.
If you have any other questions or want to talk about this in
more
detail, please let us know.
